We’re all home and safe now as our Road Trip has now ended (over 4000kms!). We drove from Sydney to Gem’s sister’s place at the Gold Coast via the Pacific Highway which was a pretty good drive. Certainly not as quick as I thought it would have been but it was more scenic then the inland route.

Well we are about to leave Sydney after having a great time there but was defiantly a little bit too short. We arrived on mid Friday afternoon after which I went out to dinner with two of our clients from Sydney who actually didn’t live all that far away from where we were staying so had dinner at a restaurant on the Corso in Manly.

We are now in Sydney after traveling from Melbourne to Canberra to Sydney. The drive went really quick with me and Gem splitting the driving but we did get to Canberra a bit later then expected after stopping in the morning at the Queen Victoria Markets in Melbourne before heading off.

Well now our days in Melbourne have now ended. We leave Melbourne tomorrow morning to set off to Sydney and I must admit I think I will miss Melbourne as we had a great time there and I really fell in love with the city due to its design appeal of all the buildings and how great the transport infrastructure was.
We spent today shopping by starting off at the new DFO on Spencer street which had a few good stores but not many specials or anything much different to the usual.

Another great day for us in Melbourne. We started off a bit late as we slept through our alarms till 11am (Melbourne time) because the room was so dark from the thick curtains (three pass blockout lining - thanks Gem!). We then walked down to the Melbourne Aquarium where we spent the majority of our day.

We arrived in Melbourne on Day Seven of the trip after passing through the Great Ocean Drive which we would give a high recommondation to go on. Its a great drive as long as you don’t have any slow cars in front of you! We then passed through via Bells Beach (just had to visit there) and then through Geelong to arrive in our hotel, Oaks on Market.

We have now left Adelaide and are now in a motel in the regional city of Warrnambool. Warrnambool is just located at the start of the Great Ocean Road which we will set off on tommorrow morning so it was an ideal stop over location before we spend most of today on that road. Infact just tonight I found out some interesting facts on it such as its the world’s largest war memorial as it was built by the serviceman of World War I by just picks, shovels and dynamites in memory of their fallen comrades.

We have now left the lovely city of Adelaide after having a great time in there with relatives and friends of ours. The city has a lot of similarities to Toowoomba which a few of the people we know that were from Toowoomba originally commented on as well. They have problems with not many places being open on Sunday’s and just the general layout and traffic is very similar to Toowoomba.

Well here we are staying in the Barossa Valley at the beautiful Novotel Barossa Valley Resort situated right next to the infamous Jacob’s Creek. So as you can guess we went even further then anticipated and are now just 70kms outside of Adelaide so it will be an easy drive in the morning for us.
Surprisingly Gem ended up driving most the trip (and the start of it) with around 7 hours and 750 odd kms under her belt! Was good to take a break from driving and have her driving for me.

Well we have now finished day one of our Road Trip for 2007 (Toowoomba - Adelaide - Melbourne - Sydney) and it was a complete success.
We had a bit of a late start due to Gemma me taking a while to get read but ended up leaving around 7:30am which is damn early for us and Charlie! We left our poor Charlie at home as we set off on our 2 week voyage and the first thing we did in the car was change the tomtom GPS voice from the Ozzie Osbourne one that we had left on!
We headed towards Goondiwindi and I must say as much as the road was a bit bumpy (not really all that bad) I found it a great drive as the road was only one lane each way but it was so damn wide, like a easy two car widths. The route we did take (National Highway A39) is pretty much the main truck / road train route but with the roads being so wide and straight it made over taking easy.
